Name: Ava Ire
Canon: Ava's Demon
Journal: [personal profile] fireire
Gender: Girl
Age: 15
Canon History: Ava Ire
Canon Abilities/Powers: In current canon, Ava's abilities are currently somewhat unknown. That is to say, the details are still being fleshed out. However, we can make guesses based on three things: what Wrathia has outright stated to the titular Ava, the powers of another in a similar position, and things that have happened with Ava's body since the pact.

Wrathia explained some aspects of the pact to Ava, and one of the most interesting details is basically immortality... to a degree, anyway. Until Ava finishes her side of the pact (unite the other warriors and take down Titan), she cannot die. Normally fatal wounds do put her out of commission for a short while, but then her body forces itself to heal what's been done so she can get back to work. This is further confirmed by Maggie, another pact user, who purposefully crashed a spaceship and showed no worries about death.

Maggie also shows us another aspect of being a pact user that Ava may share: using the element of her demon by merging it with her body. With Maggie, this means making her limbs extremely strong and mobile vines or creating enormous powerful plant arms. We've seen some degree of this appear in Ava although unwillingly. When embarrassed or angry, her skin seems to glow red-orange hot and her eyes change in color. Gil once remarked that he thought her fever might be coming back although it was just Ava's skin heating up far beyond the norm in a situation that evoked strong feelings in her. Therefore it's likely that Ava is capable of adjusting her body to merge to some degree with fire or magma. She also probably won't suffer much (if at all) against those elements.

Something shown but not explained in canon is Ava's regrettable tendency to vomit up lava. She's down this twice so far. The first time was when Gil was showing considerable care for her, the first time in a long while Ava had ever experienced such a thing. The second time was when Odin caught her peeking under Maggie's shirt. (Ava was doing this to confirm that Maggie was like her, a pact user.) At his teasing that Ava used her glasses as "xray glasses" to peer under people's clothing, her skin heated up and she immediately held her hands to her mouth... coughing out smoke a moment later after swallowing. This hints that, similar to her excessive body temperature, Ava's lava is also linked to her feelings of intense emotions.

Another thing to keep in mind is that in canon, Ava's body is changed after making her pact with Wrathia. Her chest now houses a strange drawer which she can unlock with a key Wrathia gave her. Pulling it out offers things like an explanatory book about the other warriors (although Ava doesn't find it very helpful as it's all pictures) or a phone that let's her talk with Wrathia again. (After the Pact, Ava could no longer see Wrathia as it required the dead queen to be stuck inside Ava's body more securely so that Ava could use her abilities.) It also offered her glasses which could help her see into the spiritual side of things which would help her find the other warriors.

In summary, Ava possesses immortality and powerful connections to fire/lava/magma. She also is physically modified to have a strange chest of holding (ba dum tish) which allows her to communicate with Wrathia and provides an item that lets her see the spiritual side of things.

Sunshineverse History:
Ava's story never really began with herself, or even her family. Instead, her story began before she was even born. Her story began with a powerful kunoichi named Wrathia Bellarmina.

Wrathia herself would claim that she and her six fellow shinobi warriors were fearsome enough that the leaders of the various hidden villages were terrified of her. Ava, in contrast, isn't certain how much of that is actual truth or if Wrathia is simply boastful. Either way... She certainly did seem powerful enough to get the attention of a mysterious group. Ava doesn't understand the entire story but Wrathia and her warriors were forced up against a powerful group known only as TITAN. The fearsome kunoichi died but she had a plan: her and her fellow ninja would force their souls into powerful reserves of chakra in a last chance to destroy her hated enemies. For Wrathia herself, it was fire chakra. What she wasn't counting on... was TITAN sealing her away in the body of a baby.

That baby was one Ava Ire.

It's hard to say what would have happened to that child had nin from other Lands not interfered with that battle. In the mass of confusion, Ava ended up getting picked up by a Kiri-nin. Needless to say, Kirigakure isn't known for its gentle souls... However, the sight of the seal kept them interested. Not wanting a child so interesting to fall into the hands of another (like treacherous Iwa), the Kiri-nin took the child back to their own village.

Ava never quite fit in, however. She was sometimes a quiet kind of girl, the kind that could be easily bullied about. That wouldn't be enough to make her life miserable, however. She was only sometimes a quiet girl. Sometimes, in sudden bursts, she was crude and aggressive and with no care to any punishment that could be put against her. That was never actually Ava. That was Wrathia, able to possess her body in spurts because of a weakness in the seal- weak enough to let her break through now and then but never for long. It frustrated her that she was stuck with such a weak child. Insistently she tried to destroy Ava's life, encourage a child to die so that she could be free of her. Wrathia's own hands failed, and her words never seemed to push Ava over the edge. Ava hated her life... but she wouldn't die according to Wrathia's wishes.

A brush with death would occur eventually, however. Ava was newly ten years old, and graduation would be coming around soon once more. At eight and nine, she hadn't been able to and a part of her wondered if she ever would be capable of it. She was under pressure from her adopted family. There was great power in her, they all seemed so certain of it. Ava? Ava didn't think it was ever going to happen. She was certainly skilled in Tessenjutsu, but the water jutsu her village was so known for... She just couldn't completely get a handle on it. There was something wrong with her. With just a couple months until graduation, she was wondering if she was even fit to be a kunoichi of Kirigakure. She was outside the village, isolated as always... when missing nin stumbled onto her. She had no idea what they wanted, but they didn't want any witnesses. Ava got horribly injured as they attempted to kill her, only to escape. For all the good that did her... She was bleeding out and she knew it. Wrathia and Ava got into a horrible argument then. Wrathia was incensed that Ava had held off on death for so long simply because she didn't want Wrathia to be the cause of it. Ava, on the other hand, was furious that she had to deal with Wrathia's selfishness and abuse for so long. It was only then that the fiery kunoichi suggested something to Ava, and explained her life.

A pact...

If Ava made a pact with Wrathia to hunt down TITAN, Wrathia would be sealed and never able to bother Ava again unless meditation was done. Ava would also get free access to Wrathia's immense fire chakra without backlash. And... she wouldn't die. She'd get to try and improve her life. It was a decision Ava had to make quickly. A second chance, or finally just get rid of it all? In the end, she agreed. Under Wrathia's direction, Ava used her own blood to make a seal overlaying the original one that had been on her chest since she was a baby. After that, she fell unconscious for a while and woke up in her own blood... but the wounds were gone. If not for her clothes, she might as well have been unharmed period.

Ava never explained the pact to anyone. Not her parents, her teachers, or her classmates. She was already something of an outcast anyway amongst her peers. On one hand, this meant no one really missed her when she practiced all on her own. In meditation, Wrathia was more willing to communicate and teach Ava how to use certain fire jutsu. If they wanted to go out into the world to seek out TITAN, after all, Ava first needed to graduate in the first place and make contacts as a genin. That meant it was in Wrathia's best interests to get her new 'partner' out of school. Those last couple months were rigorous and harsh, but Ava managed. No one was expecting much of quiet Ava Ire when the graduation tests came around. She'd never shown any exceptional talent beforehand. So when she trapped her opponent in Lava Release and then bludgeoned them into unconsciousness with her fans, no one knew what to make of it. What had happened to the nervous distressed girl who yelled at air? Well, her teachers knew what to make of it- they let her graduate and become a proper genin shinobi.

As genin, Ava was fairly reliable. She was already used to trying to support herself to ease the burden on her parents- and then just for herself when her shinobi parents died on a mission leaving Ava the freedom to move to a little apartment of her own. Something about making the pact seemed to have changed Ava. For the most part, she was still fairly quiet and she still tried to awkwardly get along with others to avoid conflict. However, when pushed, she was suddenly more than willing to push back- raise her voice and mouth off with apparently little care. It wasn't quite the kind of aggression that Wrathia had displayed in her previous possessions... It was simple a young girl who was sick of being kicked around like trash. Sometimes this got her in trouble, but sometimes people shied away at the way her eyes would change and her skin would boil.

Fortunately, one particular Jounin took an interest in Ava's abilities. With that mentor's help, Ava learned how to quell her fiery emotions and how to use them only when it benefited her so that she didn't become a lava vomiting monster at every little argument. Besides giving Ava a lot of credit amongst her peers for actually, this mentor-apprentice relationship did much for Ava in terms of ability. Wrathia could only help her so much; it was great to have someone in the physical realm to guide her. Ava continued with this arrangement for two years. She would've gone on for longer if there wasn't the subject of her pact to keep in mind. When the Chunin Exams came to Kiri, Ava requested that she be allowed to participate. She was twelve, then.

She passed when she was twelve, too. For Ava, the most challenging thing about the exam had been surviving out in the wet lands of her own country, something that made her very bones shudder. Of course there were other frightening genin- she wouldn't deny that. But after dealing with Wrathia's torment for most of her young life- with knowing she couldn't die- Ava just couldn't find herself to care.

Now at fifteen, Ava is a respectable chunin and generally seen as fairly reliable when it comes to D and C missions. She's been eying the jounin level more than a little, admittedly, and knows she's going to have to take it very soon. She's just not that confident in her abilities yet no matter what Wrathia may hiss at her in her dreams. She also prefers taking up missions that require her to leave her land. This is both to go to places that have much dryer climates and to try and ignore really really hard the bloody conflict that so often is happening in Kiri.

Sunshineverse Abilities/Powers: As in canon, Wrathia and Ava are still going to have a strong bond. This time, however, Wrathia is not an alien queen but a human soul that was bound into first powerful fire chakra and then into a human baby. This involved a seal done onto her chest. A pact was still done, leading to Ava's functional immortality. This meant another seal was overlayed over the original one, given by Wrathia to Ava. This pact also allows Ava to utilize the powerful amount of fire chakra within her and there's few fire jutsu she wouldn't be able to do so long as she trained appropriately for it. Right now she's still somewhat middle level although she does have the rather frightening ability to perform Lava Release despite being so young. Wrathia's presence in her body allows her to get a handle on new fire jutsu very easily or to merge the fire jutsu with her body so that it heats up to frightening extremes. This causes some physical changes as well. Ava doesn't know where Wrathia got the knowledge for such a pact, and Wrathia has no interest in telling her host about how she was involved with the god Jashin before this whole mess happened. (She doesn't tell Ava most of her past- it's irrelevant to their goal in her view. In turn, Ava rarely cares to ask.)

While it's mostly overshadowed by the foreign fire chakra so heavy in her, Ava isn't naturally inclined to it. She's raised Kiri, not born there, and is more inclined towards earth jutsu on her own. Because of this and Wrathia, she's not as skilled as most of her other fellow Kiri in water jutsu like Kiri-Shunshin yet she still knows some low level water techniques. She is also weakened against water, however, especially in her more 'active' states. Her conflicting weaker chakra up against Wrathia's more powerful fire chakra sometimes means her chakra goes out of whack in extremely emotional situations and can force out from her mouth. It's extremely uncomfortable bordering on painful. Fortunately in recent years, Ava has managed to get this mostly under control like any good kunoichi. It's occurred to her that she could be decent in earth jutsu, but as of right now Ava doesn't know much of it.

It should be noted however that Ava can be overcome by Wrathia's influence and go into a kind of berserker mode when truly incensed. She becomes physically stronger with her fire chakra manifesting physically in the air around her, frighteningly single minded in pursuit of whatever is the cause for her anger or her goal. This takes a lot of prodding and extreme situations.

As part of graduation from the academy, Ava is of course proficient in a weapon of her choice like all Kiri nin are. Ava is a practitioner of Tessenjutsu, aka using war fans in battle. Besides being good lightweight weapons good for a small individual like Ava, they also are good for directing fire jutsu. As the fans also have metal in them, Ava can also make her chakra flow through them and make the heat emanating from them melt through most hard objects if not incinerating them outright.

Despite the fact that they are bound in the same body together, Wrathia can no longer forcefully possess Ava's body since the two of them made the pact together. They can also no longer communicate properly unless Ava forces herself into a state of meditation. Ava doesn't do this often because it leaves her very vulnerable and also because Wrathia is rarely helpful in anything not immediately concerning her own goals.

Appearance: Despite being fifteen, Ava is often mistaken for looking more along the lines of twelve. Her extremely short stature- not even five feet- doesn't help matters. When she was young, her long hair used to be light brown but ever since she made the pact, it's taken on more of a dark red color. Her most striking feature is definitely her skin. At her calmest, it's nothing striking. However her being at her calmest also tends to mean she's alone. When she's around people or in battle, her skin starts to take on more of an orange tone. The more worked up she gets, the more bright orange or piercing red her skin becomes- and burning hot to the touch as well. When truly incensed, she nearly looks like lava personified. (This rarely does anything good for her clothing.) Her eyes are similar. Under most normal circumstances, they're dark brown with red irises. They have the bad habit of turning brilliant orange, red, or yellow during heated moments. Underneath her clothing, on her chest, Ava's seal is apparent. She's never shown this to anyone before, not wanting any questions to be made about her pact with Wrathia or even Wrathia's existence. Much more apparent and something Ava is somehow more comfortable about are the various scars littering her arms and even on her neck. These are less from training... and more from when Wrathia used to possess her body.

Personality: At first glance, Ava doesn't seem like much. Her physical appearance is very small and very plain. With most people she doesn't yet know, she tends to seem almost sociable although not exactly someone skilled in dealing with people very often. Her smiles are awkward and uncertain, and her tone hesitant. This isn't exactly a mask she puts on; this is an honest to goodness part of Ava. She's only fifteen, and for ten of those fifteen years she was an outcast both amongst her peers and practically in her own body. There's still a fair bit of emotional issues inside of her that haven't really been resolved. This is a girl who has wanted to die.

Ava is also still a fifteen year old girl. Yes, a fifteen year old girl who can spew out lava and is supposed to kill people as part of her job as kunoichi, but still. Under training, Ava has managed to get most of her feelings under control so that she's not an openly emotional mess. That doesn't mean she can't be prodded into an embarrassing mess under the right circumstances, or be self conscious about her almost demonic appearance that comes up in the heat of battle. It's something she still has to work on, a bit.

It's something she'll work on after she figures out her newfound temper, however, something that's erupted ever since the pact and is just part of the package with her newfound confidence. There's something to be said to immortality... It takes away so many worries. Ava doesn't have to fear death. There's pain, sure, but it won't ever kill her. It really only applies to physical pain but on some sort of level, it helps Ava deal with her emotional and mental pain too. Nothing will ever truly hurt her again, and one day she'll be somewhere better. That's what gives Ava some of her confidence when it comes to her fighting ability and life in general. It's why she isn't afraid to stand up to people anymore. What's the worst others can do to her? Something in her own brain has already tried to destroy her multiple times before, after all. She's been there and done that. Now, she just wants to live.

This confidence only applies to so many things, however. When it comes to actually getting along with people and maybe reaching her dream of living in a world where people care if she lives or dies, Ava can become extremely uncertain in herself. As an outcast, her social skills haven't exactly been polished and she knows it. Convincing others and just plain making friends leaves the girl feeling out of her depth. Being a Kiri kunoichi doesn't exactly help her either; anyone who shows kindness to her is regarded with more than a bit of confusion and suspicion.

Special mention should also be given to Wrathia, although she no longer has much of a physical presence anymore ever since the pact trapped her ever further inside Ava's body. Extremely arrogant, demanding, and with a vicious temper, Wrathia was probably quite a force to behold when she was alive. It's certainly what she likes to boast, at any rate. Ava's gotten used to her presence in her mind a bit better over the past five years. The two still aren't exactly close by any means, but Wrathia has slowly started to realize that her previous aggressive tactics aren't going to cut it when it comes to Ava. Whenever Ava opens up communicationgs between them, Wrathia has lately been trying to offer some level of support although it's clear she doesn't know what she's doing exactly. Her best incentive is when it seems to involve her goal of revenge, which Ava is well aware of and tries to use to her advantage.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
Mental:
+Resistant to torture or being driven to ruin herself (side effect of living with Wrathia for ten years)
+Incredibly stubborn
+Has somewhat helpful headmate
-Headmate is sometimes less helpful and prone to making things complicated for Ava
-Knowledge of inability to die sometimes makes Ava reckless
-Loner tendencies due to inability to properly socialize

Emotional:
+Confident and not afraid to stand up for herself
-Uncertain how to open up and communicate clearly in person
+Determinator; Ava will not back down from something she has her sights set on or if she has a grudge set against someone else
-This can also set off her temper if something suddenly changes in her pursuit of a goal. Example, someone betraying her after making an agreement.

Physical:
+Small stature makes her harder to hit, easier to hide
-Also makes her easier to pick up, leave behind in the dust, and avoid short reach
+Skill in fire jutsu combined with fans helps overcome reach issue
+Can heat up body so that she can't be picked up or can cause damage to people attacking her hand to hand
-Extremely susceptible to water jutsu in this state
-Also makes it difficult to hide effectively

Village Affiliation: Kiri
Rank: Chunin

Prose sample: "I don't want to talk about it."

Ava turns her head away with a grumble, observing the strange way her hair shifts. Then again, everything is strange in this place. She guesses that's just how it is when you're in your... mind? Soul? She should be more used to it, she knows. It's been five years. This is far from the first time she's seen her own strange pale pink form, the way her clothes and long hair don't seem to follow any sense of gravity. Still, it just bugs her. Maybe because it's a sign of how messed up her life is. How many other people have meetings in their own head?

"Jeez, you take one dive into the water and become a useless mess and it's suddenly the end of the world."

And it's all her fault. Ava huffs as she glares back at the other woman in the strange room. Wrathia doesn't pay her any mind; the dead kunoichi seems more interested in inspecting her nails than actually chatting with Ava. This isn't new, either, but it still makes Ava give out a frustrated huff. At least it's better than constant harassment. She just has to remember that and it's a little more bearable. "I didn't become useless," she protests with a snap. "I managed to get out and help a little. I know at least a little water jutsu, no thanks to you." Ava glares away again, curling up and holding onto her knees a little tighter. "I looked like an idiot... And I'm thinking of becoming Jounin"

There's no disagreement, but after a moment Ava smells burning flesh in her nose and feels Wrathia's warm lava-like body near hers. "Listen, Ava, it's going to be kind of inevitable that you'll.. fuck up." Ava can nearly hear the other bite down on her tongue for a second to hold herself back from saying something else. "You're still just a chunin, it'll happen. Buuuut now we know the kind of situation to avoid. So. There's the plus in this situation."

Sometimes Wrathia's normally combative nature is more preferable to this really awkward caring thing she seems to be trying out. At least the awkwardness actually manages to help Ava a little bit, her shoulders loosening up. "I guess..." A huff that's more like a tired sigh. "I need to stock the fridge up again. Bye."

And Ava opens her eyes.

The meditation had taken a little longer this time. In the time she's been "gone", the water has turned from "boil the skin off the bone" hot to "could give you a nasty ouchie". She quickly rinses the shampoo from her hair so she can get out; water has never been a comfortable thing for her. Ironic considering she's supposed to be a Kiri nin. Her long hair is quickly dried, and she covers up the seal on her chest as fast as she can with her usual wear. As usual, her headband protector is tied around her waist. Now she almost looks like a respectable shinobi instead of one covered in old blood and mud. As she steps out of her little apartment, Ava takes in a deep breath.

She hopes the supermarket doesn't break into a fight again. At least until she's already leaving.

Bracket sample: [That certainly is a little girl at the gates to the hidden village, looking a little distressed. Or maybe it's aggravated?]

I promise I'm not a little kid trying to play a prank! I'm fifteen! I'm chunin level, the passport says so right there!

[Her shoulders slump in frustration and a huff escapes her. It's not easy looking like a tiny little kid. What kind of bloodthirsty ninja from the Mist is she?]

[ >Intervene in this issue?]

Missive Sample: [Oh, it's a message from the shinobi with the stylized demon signature. You know the one, wide slasher smile and horns curving down the sides of her face? That one.]

Warning to all Kiri nin, try to avoid the area at these coordinates. A large explosion happened and now there's lava everywhere. Does anyone know when the next storm is coming? If it's not in the next 24 hours we should probably get some shinobi skilled with water jutsu there soon or there might be a forest fire.

It should also be noted that this time Ava Ire didn't do it. Really, I promise. It looks like a non-affiliated nin responsible. It's hard to say if they're
[A pause.] incinerated or if they escaped the blast. Konoha is skilled in fire jutsu, aren't they? Does anyone know if they have any missing nin who can do lava release?
